What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is a not-for-profit cooperative financial institution serving groups of people who have "something in common." The common bond can be a place of work, a community or an association.

A credit union's members are the owners. As an owner, you have a voice. Officers, directors, and committee members are volunteers elected by the credit union membership and serve without pay.

A credit union's sole purpose is to serve our members, in good times or in bad. All of the benefits of membership are derived from that single purpose.

By pooling their savings, our members create a source of funds for loans, which are made available to "members only" at reasonable rates of interest. The interest from these loans allow the credit union to pay dividends on members' savings and to pay for the staffing and operations.
